Write things down
There is absolutely no shame in writing things down. Lots of moms all over the world write things down to help remember stuff. Part of being organized is not forgetting what’s happening throughout your day. Make a list and write down what’s going on that day. If you’re more technologically inclined, you can use your smartphone to make a list and smartphones. I love using this journal. It has room to plan and it’s hardcover!
Stay organized as you go
It’s much easier to get organized from the start than it is to try and get organized from a mess. Don’t let paperwork and chaos pile up, stay organized as you go! When something important comes in the mail, take care of it. I like these mail organizers. You can fit your stamps and supplies in the little drawer at the bottom and separate outgoing and incoming mail in the top slots.
Teach your kids to be organized
As a mom, you’re usually in charge of several little people. As your kids get older, teach them how to be organized. Here are some ideas for teaching your children organization –
- Put items back when they’re done.
- Clean up after themselves.
- Throw trash away at the first chance.
- Write down important dates, put reminders on the calendar.
Teaching your kids to be organized is going to help save your sanity in the long run. Get your partner on board as well!
Set deadlines for yourself
If you’re not a person that cares about getting something done, then you need to set deadlines for yourself. Deadlines will add the necessary pressure to help you get things done. Deadlines aren’t a bad thing, they are just a form of accountability that some people need. One thing is for sure, deadlines will help you stay more organized.
Get rid of things you can’t use
Another great way to be a more organized mom is to steer clear of clutter. Clutter can really mess things up as far as organization goes. Spend a day going through your house and getting rid of items your family no longer uses. Donate what is still usable and recycle what you can. Organization is much easier, when you’re not overwhelmed with clutter. You really need to declutter on a regular basis to stay on the path of organization.
Make sure you’re delegating
To be a more organized mom, you need to realize that you can’t do everything. Start delegating if you need to. You may need to ask for help from family and friends to get things done and that’s okay. Moms oftentimes become flustered basket cases because they say yes to too much stuff, yet at the end of the day, they have no time for themselves.
When it comes to being a more organized mom, utilize these tips. Put a few into practice and you will find how easy it is to be more organized. Do you have any tips to add?
