Looking for a way to start your week off right every time? Well, look no further! No more waking up on Monday morning with lots of loose ends and no direction! Today I’m going to discuss something that has really streamlined my week and I hope that it encourages you to do the same. I call it “Plan It Sunday”. What is this? Well, it’s actually really simple. I take one day to set up for the week ahead. This might not be a Sunday for you, so do what fits for your situation. Be sure to check out my post on “Quick Guide To Time Management” as well for even more tips to streamline your week and to get those important things done.
Planning your week out and doing a little prep work on your plan day will alleviate a LOT of stress and save you a lot of time later in the week. I find that I am now more ready to face my week and get things done. So let’s get started. Grab yourself a sheet a paper. Don’t try to get to fancy with this. A note card would do just fine as well. 😉
Now, lets think ahead to the upcoming week. What do you have to get done and what can you do today to make it easier? Do a little brain storming and figure out what can save you time and stress next week. Here is an example of my Plan It Sunday routine.
For me Mondays are my grocery shopping days. So on Sunday’s I will do a quick kitchen clean up. There is nothing more frustrating than dragging in a car full of groceries and then no where to put them. So I clean out old expired foods from the fridge and give the pantry a quick touch up so that I can actually fit the new groceries in there. This is a simple 5 minute job that has really stream lined my Mondays. It’s exhausting to grocery shop with kids and all I want to do when I get home is put things away and sit down for a breather.
Also on Sunday I will do a very quick house spruce up to make my daily chores for the week quicker and easier. Using my time management guide post you will see that each day of the week I focus on one area of my home. Sundays are pretty laid back here without a lot of commitments so a 20-30 min. spruce up is piece of cake on this day. Things I do: a quick toilet scrub (just a quick swish of the brush), check that toilet paper is stocked, stock paper towels and cloth napkins in kitchen, put shoes away in their proper spaces, take out trash in each room, wash down the kitchen garbage can, pre-prep a few quick and grab snack bags for kiddo, wash out pet bowls, restock printer paper and check ink levels, wash bed linens, tidy up my cleaning basket and make sure all my supplies are in there and easy to find for the week, and that about wraps it up. It really doesn’t take long at all. The longest chore here will be washing bed linens so toss the sheets in the washer before you start your list so it will be ready for a switch over to the dryer when your done with your list.
All these simple little things really keep me stream lined during the week. You can get as fancy as you want with this. Other ideas you might consider is meal prep for the week, lay out outfits for the week, gift wrap any birthday party presents for an upcoming birthday, etc. Just don’t turn this into something big and stressful because this is suppose to quick and easy. Sometimes it’s just having things ready to go that makes all the difference!
