Let’s face it, homeschool can be hard sometimes. There is so much that goes into each and every homeschool day that you can very easily get overwhelmed and burnt out. I think we have all been there!
I have put together a quick list of 7 things that you can do when you are totally overwhelmed with homeschooling. This list is meant to give you somewhat of a break and let you RELAX and recharge your batteries! Ready? Let’s get to the list:
#1 Go to the zoo! If you live near the zoo then take advantage of it. Get yourself a year-long membership and when the going gets tough take the day off and go to the zoo! Zoos are fun and educational so it’s win-win.
#2 Go to the park! Pack a lunch and head out the door for some fresh air! Let the kids run around and burn off some steam. A perk of homeschooling is that the parks are usually not crowded during school hours so take advantage of this time and get out there!
#3 Go visit a local farm. Ask around and see if there are any local farms in your area that wouldn’t mind giving you a tour. Children can learn all sorts of things on a farm and it’s fun to see all the animals up close and personal. Plus if they have a garden you can go over how our food grows and gets to the table.
#4 Build a fort! You can do this indoors or outdoors depending on the weather. We like to toss a huge comforter over the kitchen table and crawl under it. You can add pillows and make it extra cozy! Toss in some books for the kiddos and sit down and relax while the kids play!
#5 Painting time! Roll out some white paper and get out the paints. Be sure there are enough paint brushes for everyone! While the kids paint go find that book you have been wanting to read and get some “me time” in! Around here a good painting day set up can last a good hour or more! Plenty of time to let go of the days stresses and relax a little.
#6 Send the kids to grandmas! If you are fortunate to live near family then I suggest you take advantage of it. When you are overwhelmed a few hours of rest can make a huge difference in your day. The grandparents will enjoy the time with the kiddos and you can finally enjoy a nap!
#7 Documentary time! Oh yes, I can hear the moans and groans now! Honestly though, there are some really great educational shows on Netflix that the kids will actually enjoy. Even my 6 year old will sit through an hour educational show easy peasy! So give it a try and see if it works for your kids. Even something like Sid The Science Kid counts!
Homeschooling can get overwhelming rather quickly sometimes. There is nothing wrong with taking a day off here and there. In fact it actually benefit your homeschool by allowing to recharge and relax a little. This will give you a nice fresh start on the next day.
