Hey guys! I just wanted to take some time today to let you guys know about this really amazing thing we’ve been listening to. It’s called Family Audio Adventures and it’s by the same people who created the series, Adventures in Odyssey. They were kind enough to send me audio to listen to and I am very impressed!
Unlike Adventures in Odyssey, though, this series is presented completely in audio form. Now, I know that some of you may think that is a bit boring. You may think that your kids probably wouldn’t enjoy it. Well, hear me out for a few minutes before you decide to click over to something else.
First off, I want to tell you that this is like no audiobook that I’ve ever listened to. And, being honest, I’ve listened to some pretty good ones where the person narrating the story did a really good job of putting on voices and really making you get into the story. However, the people who produced this series pulled out all of the stops. The writing is fantastic, with the stories being very character-driven. The sound designers put in a lot of effort to make things sound exciting. Then, to pull it all together, they have some really top-notch voice actors.
The cast includes stars such as Sean Astin (The Goonies, Rudy, The Lord of the Rings), Billy Boyd (The Lord of the Rings, Master & Commander), Skandar Keynes (The Chronicles of Narnia series), John Rhys-Davies (Indiana Jones, Lord of the Rings), Joanne Froggatt (Downton Abbey), Brian Blessed (Star Wars, King Lear, Tarzan), Helen George (Call the Midwife), Sylvester McCoy (Doctor Who, The Hobbit), John Bell (The Hobbit, Wrath of the Titans, Battleship), Cathy Sara (Woman in Black, Topsy-Turvy), James Cosmo (Highlander, Braveheart) and Kirk Cameron (Growing Pains, Left Behind, Fireproof).
What the cast and crew have accomplished is a spectacular feat – they have managed to bring history to life in a way that gets children engaged and excited. Through the seemingly lost art of oral storytelling, they present stories of ordinary (and even flawed) people doing heroic things, giving children figures to look up to who may not have worn capes or had superpowers, but committed huge acts of bravery, courage, and faith. These are qualities and morals that I hope to instill in my child and I think they did a marvelous job of presenting them in a way that children will understand and enjoy.
Another thing that I really think makes this series a great investment is that it can help to broaden children’s minds. Having these big, action-packed stories told in audio form does something that videos can’t always achieve – it sparks their imagination. When things are not laid out for them on the screen, it gives them the opportunity to fill in the blanks on their own. The stories also help to expand their vocabulary and their attention spans. Plus, your family has the opportunity to discuss the stories, which not only helps you to discuss the biblical values and morals presented, but also encourage your children to practice active listening and critical thinking skills. I’m sure you will agree that those are two sets of skills that they will need to navigate not only academia, but life.
Who is This For?
I think this is great if you are looking for a way to:
- Implement history into your homeschool curriculum or just teach your kids about history
- Teach your kids biblically-based morals and values
- Get your kids excited about other types of entertainment
- Encourage your child’s imagination
- Expand your child’s critical thinking skills, attention span, and vocabulary
- Spend more time together as a family doing something enjoyable
What Is Included
Your set comes packed with four audio adventures for the family (about 8 hours of listening time):
The Dragon and the Raven
“The Danes have swept over every kingdom in England, laying waste to everything in their path. Join Edmund and the one man who is willing to stand against the invaders – the young King Alfred of Wessex. From standing in the shield-wall to sailing on the whale-road, Alfred and Edmund realize the nation’s only hope is to turn back to the God they have abandoned. Can the two young warriors turn the tide of the war and save their world?”
With Lee in Virginia
“Fifteen-year old Vincent Wingfield finds himself in a thrilling adventure when he joins the cavalry of the Army of Northern Virginia. He is soon fighting alongside many of the most famous Confederate generals, including Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson and Robert E. Lee. General Lee’s steadfast sense of duty and his dauntless devotion to God inspire Vincent to take a stand for his country and his fellow man that could save his life.”
In Freedom’s Cause
“Can one man’s faith and vision inspire a group of farmers, shepherds, and merchants to defeat the mightiest military force on the planet?
William Wallace, by his undaunted courage and strength of character, forever changed the history of Scotland. His stand against oppression—despite overwhelming odds—inspired the heroic leader who would eventually gain Scotland’s freedom, King Robert the Bruce.
The source of Wallace’s fire was his faith in God. He loved the Psalms and meditated on them daily. At his execution, Wallace had his psalter placed before him so he could read the Psalms as King Edward’s men tortured him.
This is the untold account of Wallace and “The Bruce”— a story that continues to stir our hearts
even today. A story that teaches us that true freedom is worth fighting for.”
Under Drake’s Flag
“Ned Hawkshaw is about to take the greatest adventure a boy could ever imagine…with one of the most celebrated heroes in history—Sir Francis Drake! Ned fights off a shark attack, survives a shipwreck, engages in fierce battles on sea and land, and comes face to face with the Spanish Inquisition. Experience the swashbuckling tale that pits faith against fear, and helps Ned grow from a boy into a man.”
In addition to these four audio family adventures, you also get 4 bonuses: a 100-page study guide, 4 award-winning soundtracks by Emmy-winning composer John Campbell (The Chronicles of Narnia), printable poster art, and four limited edition Henty collector’s coins worth nearly $120 on their own.
This is a product that I can stand behind 100% and recommend. We truly enjoyed this and plan to use this in future as well. It’s quality is top notch, kids love it, and it’s so easy to use! If you have been curious about trying out an audio product then this is the product for you!
