Children can help around the house as early as 3 years old! Taking the time to show a child how to help around the house doesn’t have to be a hard task. It can be fun and easy all while saving you time in the long run! Let’s get started on teaching them some fun and easy household chores!
When children are given responsibilities around the house it helps them develop a sense of belonging. It helps them feel confident and like they are contributing to the family. It can be a positive boost for your child. Here are 5 easy chores that your children can do. These are great for kids 3-6. You determine what best suits your child.
*Vacuuming: This one is FUN for little kids! Get a stick vacuum and plug it in for them. Then let them loose with it in the house! You will be surprised at what those little eyes find.
*Taking out the trash: Okay, maybe not as fun as vacuuming, but it is easy and quick. For the smaller children have them empty the smaller garbage cans like the one in your office or bedrooms.
*Feeding pets: Feeding pets is a great chore for young kids. They learn how to care for a pet and it’s simple for them to do.
*Sorting laundry: This is an important life skill and most kids enjoy this task. They can sort by color or laundry type. Shirts over here, towels over there, and socks right there. Of course this also saves you time once they get the hang of it.
*Clearing the dinner table: Younger children can clean up the dishes, put them in the sink, and wipe down the table.
This is BIG help in our household and it gives me a head start on kitchen clean-up! I hope this gave you some ideas on how to get your kids more involved around the house. They will love being included. Be sure to be patient and give them lots of praise for a job well done! 🙂
