These summertime activity ideas are perfect for kids! With the summer months approaching, these are a great way for everyone to have some fun!
Summer may seem like a time to relax and lay back but try telling that to your kids who are bouncing off the walls or screaming “I’m bored.” As parents, we want our kid’s summer to be more memorable than the last, which means coming up with new ideas.
Here are a few ideas that will keep your kids from getting bored while creating memories they’ll have for a lifetime.
Summertime Activity Ideas Perfect For Kids
-
Do a scavenger hunt
Write a list of items for your child to search for or make a buried treasure map. Encourage them to explore the yard, the neighborhood, and nearby parks to find their treasures. When they return, spend some time looking over all their treasures and listening to their stories about how and where they found them. This is also a great game to play on a summer road trip or a day adventure. At the amusement park, they can look for people wearing certain color t-shirts or kinds of food and snack bars. On road trips, they can search for road signs, words, and numbers.
-
Make a summer bucket list
A summer bucket list is a great way to make sure your child has something to do almost every day. Help your child make a list of about 50 things they want to do and enjoy over the summer. Using a poster board, colorful markers and scrapbook paper, create a collage they can hang on the wall where it can be seen often. Let them choose something off the board a couple of times a week and have an adventure.
-
Volunteer
Encourage kindness towards others and giving back to their community by volunteering. Let them volunteer at a soup kitchen serving a meal, reading to the elderly at a retirement home or take care of homeless animals at the local animal shelter.
-
Teach them to cook
Cooking and baking not only teach valuable math skills they also allow your kids to make a delicious creation. Let them choose a recipe that interests them and teach them how to properly measure and mix the ingredients. Make cupcakes or cookies they can decorate with colorful frosting and toppings. Or get a kid-friendly cookbook and teach them how to make dinner for the family.
-
Set up a lemonade stand
They can learn business and math skills while earning extra money for themselves or their favorite charity. They’ll need to interact with other people, teaching them good social skills as well. And they can even sell some of the delicious creations they make!
-
Plan a family game night
Let your kids plan an evening for the family including games and a fun menu. They’ll learn organizational skills by getting the games and supplies together. Let them create a special rule for the night like everyone has to eat dessert first or everyone has to wear a funny hat. Build their confidence and self-esteem by putting them in charge of all the planning.
-
Plant a butterfly garden
A beautiful flower garden will not only make your yard look pretty, but it will also benefit nature by inviting butterflies and birds to spend time there. Your kids can get dirty, have fun and build an attractive masterpiece in your yard.
Keeping your kids busy with fun and adventure is a great way to make sure they have a memorable summer! Need more ideas? Check out these!
